Getting started with FoolProof

What happens when your store comes onto FoolProof, how your team signs in, and the handful of screens you'll actually live in. No IT project — most stores are ringing sales the same day.

For store owners · About 5 minutes

The short version: we import your catalog and stock for you, set your compliance rules for your jurisdiction, and hand you a register that already knows your products, your prices, and your tax. You sign in and start selling.

1. Onboarding — we move you in

You don't start from an empty screen. Before day one, FoolProof imports your existing store into the system:

This is a one-time migration. After the cutover, FoolProof is your system of record — it doesn't depend on your old POS to keep running. You own your data.

Coming from Lightspeed or another POS? That's the normal path. We handle the export and the mapping; you review the result before you go live.

2. Your compliance rules are set for you

FoolProof is configured for the state and jurisdiction you operate in as part of setup — sale hours in your own time zone, age rules, tax, and (where you're licensed for it) delivery rules. You don't wire up a rules engine. It arrives already knowing where you are.

See Age Verification and Delivery Rules for how those checks show up at the register and at the door.

3. Signing your team in

  1. Open the merchant app in a browser on your register, tablet, or laptop — it's a web app, so there's nothing to install.
  2. Sign in with the email and password set up for each person. Check Remember me on a trusted store device.
  3. Each cashier gets their own login, so every sale is tied to the person who rang it — which is what keeps your cash and compliance records trustworthy.
Tip: Owners and managers can do everything; cashiers see what they need for the register. Access is set per person, not baked into the app.

4. The screens you'll live in

The left sidebar is the same on every page. These are the ones you'll open most:

ScreenWhat it's for

  1. Sign in and open Today to confirm your store looks right.
  2. Open the drawer with your starting cash — see Managing the Drawer.
  3. Ring a test sale to get a feel for it — see Taking a Sale.
  4. Spot-check a few products in Stock to confirm prices imported the way you expect.
  5. Close the drawer at end of shift and glance at Reports.
